Our Services
Stripping/ Powder Coating
Some wheels are prone to rotting and corrosion and there are a number of ways to treat this. Some companies "shot blast" or "sand blast" wheels to remove all the paint and corrosion. We find this is a harsh process and can leave pitting; therefore we now use the latest techniques which involve us removing all the paint and corrosion and refinishing.

The wheel is placed in a specially designed cylindrical stripping tank: This helps to break up and remove the existing coating of the wheel, prior to blast cleaning. WheelFX re-coats the whole wheel, front, back and tyre well, and as such it is imperative that the original coating is completely removed (particularly on front face). With the increasing stubbornness of original manufacturers coatings, the stripping process is very important so as to minimise the effect of blast cleaning on the surface profile. Upon removal of the wheel from the stripper it is immediately washed off, with a pressure washer, in our purpose built wash off bays. If further stripping is required then it is put back in to the stripping tanks, otherwise it is sent for blast cleaning.

The steps for the stripping and powder coating process are as follows:
  • The wheels are placed in the stripping bath until all the paint is removed.
  • We then jet wash the wheels to remove all the debris and loose paint.
  • Any damage is then removed using a number of techniques.
  • The wheels are then placed in our oven and heated up.
  • The wheel once cleaned and prepared is placed in a pre-heat oven, where it is pre-heated to a set temperature for a set time length, this serves two purposes: the first is to drive as much gas out of the cast alloy as possible, and second to allow a thicker and more even coat to be applied.
  • Upon pre-heating the base powder coat is applied using electrostatic methods
  • The wheels are then heated up again and painted in the colour of your choice and baked off again.
  • We then lacquer the wheels to ensure a hard finish and bake them one final time for full curing.
  • The wheels are left to cool before they have the tyres refitted.
  • We balance the wheels before returning them to you and fitting them back to your vehicle.
